Patrick Kennedy

Patrick Joseph Kennedy II (born July 14, 1967) is an American Democratic politician serving in the United States House of Representatives, representing the 1st congressional district of Rhode Island.

He is a son of late U.S. Senator Edward M. Kennedy from Massachusetts and a member of the Kennedy family.

On February 11, 2010, Kennedy announced he would not seek re-election in the 2010 Congressional elections.

Washington is in need of another dynasty. George W. Bush is out of office. Hillary Clinton didn't win the election. And Rhode Island Rep. Patrick Kennedy recently announced he would not seek reelection, just months after his father, Massachusetts Sen. Ted Kennedy, died. But there are still plenty of famous names trying to carry on the family tradition on the campaign trail this year. Some are starting small, aiming for local office in their foray into politics -- Jason Carter, grandson of Jimmy Carter, just won election to state Senate in Georgia Tuesday night. At least one is shooting for U.S. Senate and if successful would outshine his congressman dad. Here's a look at some of the candidates this year who could pick up where their parents -- or grandparents -- leave off in politics.
